Practices with Promise Success Story

Responding to Enrollment Increase

The Challenge

Located on the main campus of Copper Mountain College, the Student Success Center has two separate areas - one for ESL and one for both GED/HiSET prep and the Adult High School Diploma. The college was first approved to offer the Adult High School Diploma program in 2010, and we moved into what was supposed to be temporary quarters. Eventually, however, we outgrew that space, and during peak hours, we would have students waiting to access a computer or sit at a table.

The Solution

We used AEBG/CAEP money, saved over a three-year period, to purchase two modular buildings that are adjoined, so we used the Data and Accountability funds for the new technological infrastructure of these two modular buildings that now serve our students in the GED/HiSET Preparation, Adult High School, and ESL programs. We moved into our new classrooms and offices in November 2017.

The most obvious outcome is that students don't have to wait for a computer or a place to work. Plus, we have seen a slight increase in enrollment, but with our classrooms, we are embarking on a marketing program this year, in order to increase our enrollments in all our programs.

The Data

The outcome will be determined by comparing enrollment, success and retention figures. Before the modular buildings, we were over capacity and could not grow any further.
